Remote Learning

Information on Remote Learning at SMHS   Remote Learning button
Dear Staff, Students, Parents/Guardians,

As you are aware, the Sunapee Middle/High School has closed school due to the COVID 19 outbreak. The closure will run through at least April 3rd. We will be switching to a remote learning model; the official start date has not yet been finalized, but the latest possible start date would be Monday, March 23rd. We expect that start date to occur sooner. but I will follow up with the date as soon as I have approval from Mr. Holden.

What does this mean?

While we are running online instruction, the building will be closed to students. If you need to reach a staff member, please do so by email. Staff members will be available to answer emails throughout the school day for assistance. If you need to speak with an administrator, please do not hesitate to reach out to me either by email or phone.

Student Academic Expectations:

Students will be expected to participate in remote lessons and activities that have been or will be prepared by teachers; these activities and lessons will be loaded into Google Classroom. While it is not required, students should follow their daily schedule when organizing their learning activities for the day. Students should begin each day by reviewing their Google Classroom to see what activities have been designed with priority given to any “live event” that has been scheduled by a teacher. Students should also check their emails each morning for any further instructions that may be provided by teachers.

Academic Help:

Teachers will be available by email to provide intervention and support as needed. School counselors will be available, and they will continue to work with seniors as they approach graduation. Additionally, counselors will provide additional offsite resources that will help students with any of their academic questions or needs.

Illness:

Students and staff will likely require time to recover from the normal illnesses which occur each year as well as COVID-19 related issues. Counseling, Nursing, and Administrative Staff will work with parents, guardians, and students to help resolve any issues or provide assistance, and teachers will be flexible with their response to students encountering such issues. We ask in the strongest terms that you communicate health issues to school administrators as soon as possible so we may provide appropriate support.

Special Education/504 Plans:

Our case managers and 504 supervisor will communicate directly with students and parents to assist in the facilitation and provision of services and supports for our students. General education teachers, special education teachers, related services providers, instructional assistants will work collaboratively to provide accommodations and modifications that benefit students as we transition to remote learning.

Other School Activities:

During the school closure all student activities are suspended. As we receive further guidance from the NHIAA and other organizations, we will update students and parents.

One Final Note:

I am confident that our teachers and students will be able to adapt well to this temporary transition to remote learning. However, there will no doubt be unanticipated items to which we must respond. The social, physical, and emotional health of our students is very much in our minds as we plan for the next few weeks and potentially beyond. Again, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have ideas, concerns, or questions.

Thank you,

Sean Moynihan, Principal
